A legionella risk assessment evaluates the risk of legionella bacteria in a building's water systems, as expected under the Approved Code of Practice L8 and the technical guidance HSG274. It is a recurring duty for landlords, employers and building managers, typically reviewed every two years or when the system changes.
The output is a structured, repeatable report: the water assets, the risks, the control measures and the actions — the kind of fixed-format compliance document FieldAIQ is designed to assemble from on-site capture.
Not live yet. This is what I'm building next. Here's how it will work — and if you do this day to day, I'd love your help shaping it.
What the assessment covers
The assessor records the water system and its assets — tanks, calorifiers, outlets, dead legs — the temperatures and conditions that raise or lower risk, the control scheme in place, and the remedial actions with priorities.
What FieldAIQ will do
Capture the asset register and readings on site, evidence conditions with photos, and draft a structured, L8-aligned report with the risk rating and the action plan — with recurring review scheduling built in.
Asset register capture
Log the water assets and their condition on site, ready to reuse at the next review.
Readings and evidence
Temperatures and observations attach to the asset they relate to.
Recurring reviews
Built for the two-year review cycle, not a one-off document.
Action plan out
Clear, prioritised remedial actions the duty-holder can work from.
Frequently asked questions
What standard does a legionella risk assessment follow?
Assessments are carried out with regard to the HSE's Approved Code of Practice L8 and the technical guidance in HSG274. This is general information, not compliance advice.
How often should it be reviewed?
Typically at least every two years, or sooner if the water system, its use or the people at risk change. FieldAIQ is built around that recurring cycle.
When will it be available?
In active development. Register your interest and we will tell you the moment it is ready.

Build it with me
I'd rather get this right with the surveyors who do it every day than guess at it on my own. If that's you, I'd genuinely like your take — what you check, what slows you down, what a good report has to say. Drop me a line; I read every one, and I'll keep you posted as it takes shape. — Dan, FieldAIQ
